Soroptimist International of Victor Valley (SIVV) is a service organization of professional women, who advance the status of women and girls, both locally and internationally, by providing financial and volunteer support.
SIVV offers business and professional women who live or work in the Victor Valley an opportunity to become involved in relevant community service projects. SIVV fundraisers and benefits help in keeping community programs effective and productive.
Through the years members have initiated many projects such as purchasing teddy bears for the Trauma Bears Program, offering comfort and support to children facing crisis. They also donated to the Cooper Home, St. Mary Medical Center-Mommy & Me Program, and High Desert Domestic Violence to name just a few. Over the last six years alone SIVV donated over $65,000 to community programs that assist women and girls who need help.
In addition, SIVV awards girls and women who strive to help themselves and others through volunteer work and community outreach by presenting the Live Your Dreams Education and Training Award and the Irene Somerset Guild Award.
Our Mission
Soroptimist’s mission is to improve the lives of women and girls, in local communities and throughout the world.
SIVV has been serving the High Desert since January 24, 1970. The purpose of a Soroptimist club is service, principally to its community, but also to society in general—locally, nationally and globally. Our objectives are to maintain high ethical standards in business; strive for human rights for all people and, in particular, to advance the status of women; to develop a spirit of friendship and unity among Soroptimists of all countries; to quicken the spirit of service and human understanding and to contribute to international understanding and universal friendship.
SIVV is a part of Soroptimist International, which is now the world’s largest classified service organization for women, with each club representing a wide range of occupations, talents and interests with more than 95,000 members in 120 countries and territories. Soroptimists work through service projects to advance human rights and the status of women. Members come from a wide diversity of cultures and circumstances.
About Soroptimist International of Americas
Soroptimist means "best for women" and that's what we strive to be—an organization of women at their best helping other women to be their best. As a volunteer organization of business and professional women we feel uniquely qualified to help women and girls live their dreams.
Throughout history and still to this day, women throughout the world face obstacles solely because of their gender. They disproportionately suffer from poverty and discrimination. It’s for this reason that Soroptimist, an organization of and by women, chooses to focus on the special challenges facing women and girls.
In order to accomplish this goal, the organization administers several international programs. The organization's major project is the Live Your Dream program which improves the lives of women and girls through grants and programs leading to social and economic improvement.
